A Night of Professional Esteem

Each year, one of the most memorable events is the time-honored tradition of recognizing those radiologists who have achieved the highest levels of professional excellence. The annual fellowship convocation allows the College to welcome its latest class of ACR fellows while also honoring both the recipients of the ACR gold medal and those who have been selected for honorary fellowship.

This year, the ACR welcomed 70 new fellows, each recognized by their peers for venerated contributions to the profession of radiology. In addition, the College bestowed its gold medal on 2 recipients, Robert W. Holden, MD, and Kay H. Vydareny, MD. Three international leaders in the field of radiology were honored for their contributions to the profession with the awarding of ACR honorary fellowship. The 3 are Francisco Arredondo, MD, of Guatemala, Rolf W. Günther, MD, of Germany, and Jens Overgaard, MD, of Denmark.

"Our voice must be the strong, the dominant, the unified one among the many clamoring for ever larger slices of the imaging pie. Our message must be credible, and we must convince our audience that we continue to strive for excellence, and that we will prove we can do it better."
– E. Stephen Amis, MD, ACR president

"We offer a unique perspective. We have a distinct voice and we are the long-term stakeholders in radiology. We have a strong focus on education and we are optimistic and idealistic."
– Jesse A. Davila, MD, past chair of the ACR's Resident and Fellow Section

"Quality imaging is of paramount importance. Quality imaging can only be performed by those who are best trained in this specialty and those who are best trained are radologists."
– James P. Borgstede, MD, chair, ACR Board of Chancellors
