RADPAC Board Discuss Goals at November Meeting

Letter from the RADPAC Chair

On November 28, 2004, the RADPAC Board met to review the 2003-2004 election cycle activity and to discuss goals for the upcoming 2005-2006 election cycle.

While RADPAC has continued to make great progress each year in the dollar amount of contributions it receives, the board unanimously determined that increasing participation among ACRa members should be RADPAC's primary focus entering the 2005-2006 election cycle. As a result, the board approved the following goals:

  • 100% participation among Board of Chancellors
  • 100% participation among Council Steering Committee
  • 100% participation among RADPAC Board
  • 100% participation among RADPAC Advisory Council
  • 100% participation among state chapter officers, councilors, and alternate councilors

Additionally, a motion passed that RADPAC achieve 20% contribution participation among all ACRa members by the end of the 2005-2006 election cycle (currently only 8% of ACRa members contribute to RADPAC).

While the aforementioned goals are ambitious, the board is confident that they are achievable. The board will work closely with the Advisory Council representatives to identify ways to increase participation in each state and will develop training materials to make accomplishing these goals easier.

With Congress likely to address important legislative issues early in 2005, such as medical liability, physician reimbursement, and controlling the overutilization of imaging, the profession of radiology will need to have its voice heard on Capitol Hill now more than ever. Our challenges are significant. We need everyone's help and support in meeting these challenges.

Increased participation from ACRa members in RADPAC will signify we have the strong and unified presence within the radiology community that we will need in order to successfully accomplish our legislative priorities.

I look foward to working with you as we face many important challenges that lie ahead for our profession.

Sincerely yours,
Arl Van Moore, Jr, MD, FACR
RADPAC Chair
