RADPAC Plays Key Role in Legislative Success for Radiology

RADPAC is a bipartisan, multicandidate political action committee of the American College of Radiology Association (ACRa). Its goal is to support and elect pro-radiology candidates at the federal level through the voluntary contributions of dues-paying ACRa members. RADPAC works through the political process to keep the concerns of radiologists in the legislative forefront.

RADPAC currently ranks in the top 5 among medical specialty PACs in both contributions received and contributions made. In 2004 alone, RADPAC was represented at more than 240 fund-raising events for candidates, political parties, and political action committees. This high level of activity by RADPAC offers access to key decision makers on policies important to the profession of radiology.

RADPAC made contributions to 156 candidates for Congress in the 2003-2004 election cycle. Of the 154 races decided on Election Day 2004, 143 candidates supported by RADPAC were victorious, giving RADPAC a success rate of 93%. RADPAC contributed to 22 Senate candidates, 19 of whom were victorious. RADPAC contributed to 132 House candidates, 124 of whom were victorious.

ACR leaders and staff attended both the Democratic and Republican 2004 national conventions, which provided a unique opportunity to solidify the ACR's role as a powerful ally in the health care community and further demonstrate radiology's commitment to supporting candidates who play a key role in decisions affecting both radiology and all of medicine.

RADPAC is dependent on the contribution and involvement of members in order to ensure the voice of radiology continues to be strong on Capitol Hill. To find out more about ways to contribute, visit the RADPAC Web pages at www.acr.org.
