Who RADPAC Supports—and How You Can Play a Role

RADPAC's goal is to support and elect pro-radiology candidates at the federal level through the voluntary contributions of members of the American College of Radiology Association (ACRa). When determining which federal candidates to support for elected office, the RADPAC board gives major consideration to:

  • incumbent candidates who sit on a congressional committee or subcommittee with jurisdiction over issues that affect radiology and who support radiology on major issues. In the US House of Representatives, it is primarily the committees on Appropriations, Energy and Commerce, and Ways and Means that have jurisdiction over issues affecting radiology. In the US Senate, it is the committees on Appropriations, Finance, and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.
  • members of Congress who serve in a leadership position in either house.
  • members of Congress who are very strong on radiology issues, regardless of whether or not they serve on a congressional committee, subcommittee or in a leadership position.
  • nonincumbent candidates, or challengers, who have held elected office previously, have a record on health care issues, have held a position in government related to health care or who are physicians.

How to Get Involved

As a member of the ACRa, you can play an important role in RADPAC's decision-making process. Do you personally know any House or Senate members or nonincumbent candidates for federal office who should be considered for RADPAC support? If so, please complete the ACRa Key Contact Form on page 14 and return it by fax or mail to the ACRa Government Relations Department. Also let us know if you can represent RADPAC at a local fund-raising event, host an event or simply meet with a candidate in order to deliver a RADPAC contribution.

The personal relationships you have with members of Congress are the most effective tool we have to ensure that radiology's views and concerns are heard loud and clear. Your combined political strength is the only way that you, as radiologists, will hold your lawmakers accountable for the decisions they make on radiology issues and health care in general.
