ACR advocacy doesn’t stop on Capitol Hill. Once a bill is signed into law, the policy-making has just begun. An executive agency charged with implementing the law has the next task of interpreting the legislation, which is often done through a formal rulemaking process, through the development of guidance documents, and even through the informal day-to-day decision-making of staff.
At times, legislation that amounts to the addition of just a few sentences in the federal code generates thousands of pages in agency rules and guidance documents. ACR staff actively monitors federal agency activity, responding to and influencing federal agency policies and regulation. The ACR routinely submits public comment and provides agency testimony on issues that could affect the practice of radiology. ACR also maintains on-going relationships with agency staff, an important complement to our more formal interactions.
