ACR Executive Director, Teleradiology Statement Featured on CNN Headline News
American College of Radiology Executive Director Harvey Neiman, MD, was interviewed on CNN Headline news December 7 regarding teleradiology. The ACR position statement on teleradiology was also featured during the segment.
Neiman expressed the ACR's determination to protect patients from inferior care by insisting that radiologists interpreting images outside the United States meet the same educational and professional standards as those here in the United States.
"We want to make sure that the radiologist physicians who are interpreting these scans in other countries, whether it is India, Australia. Israel, etc, are of equal quality … to the physicians in the United States. It's for patient protection," said Neiman.
Neiman also expressed his opinion that the ACR's efforts to ensure quality patient care regarding teleradiology, thus far, are working.
"The physicians that are referring the studies seem to be pleased with the quality. The hospitals that have credentialed the individuals that are participating in the use of teleradiology are satisfied with the quality of the service, and, most importantly, the radiologists who are overseeing it and are double-reading the examination the following morning are finding that the quality for the patients is good," said Neiman.
