Where You Can Find the ACR in Social Media

(This is a supplement to an article appearing in the September 2009 ACR Bulletin, “Savvy Social Networking”)

The ACR has decided to become active on several social media platforms in order to better connect with our members, future members, decision-makers on Capitol Hill, medical students, and patients.

It is our intent to extend our reach into these spaces so we can share and discuss the valuable role of radiology in quality patient care as well as how the ACR helps advance the profession of radiology. We’d like to invite you all to connect with the College on the following social spaces to ensure we’re addressing your needs as a practicing physician.

Facebook

Facebook is a social networking Web site that allows individuals to connect with one another through personal profiles, groups, pages, events and more. Users can also connect with brands and organizations, such as the ACR, and become “fans” of their products and services. The ACR’s fan page can be found at http://www.facebook.com/AmericanCollegeOfRadiology.

The ACR Case Challenge is a knowledge game based on ACR's popular Case in Point that is accessible from within Facebook. The ACR Case Challenge allows users to play against friends on a variety of radiology topics while improving your knowledge in specific areas of radiology. Those with Facebook accounts can install the application and access it any time they log in to Facebook.

Twitter

Twitter is a social networking platform that allows users to let their followers know what they are doing in 140 characters or less. Also known as “tweets” these messages can be read online via the Web or through a desktop or mobile application. Organizations are using Twitter to connect with customers, share information and stay current with trending topics in real time. You can read or subscribe to the ACR’s tweets by visiting https://twitter.com/RadiologyACR.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a professional networking Web site that connects individuals to other like-minded professionals. LinkedIn users create a personal profile and can invite their professional contacts to join their professional network. The ACR has created a group on LinkedIn so that radiology professionals can collaborate on any number of relevant topics in a professional environment. The ACR group is open only to those with a medical imaging career focus. To join the conversations, simply click on the above link and follow the prompts to join. Your membership will be reviewed approved by a member of our staff.

YouTube

YouTube, the most widely known video sharing site, has become an invaluable resource for people seeking information in a visual way. Health care organizations like the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins Medicine have channels on YouTube as well as individual physicians. The College plans to update the channel when new educational videos are created, as well as demo some of our educational product offerings. To view or subscribe to the ACR’s channel, please visit http://www.youtube.com/user/RadiologyACR.

Social media is a rapidly changing segment of technology and we hope to leverage it to better address the needs of our members. If you have any questions or need assistance navigating any of the above platforms, please contact ACR’s New Media Writer Stephanie Saltzberg DeBoer at ssaltzberg@acr-arrs.org or 800-227-5463, ext. 4585.
