What You Need to Know About Mammography - Video
The “What You Need To Know About Mammography” campaign, cosponsored by the American College of Radiology Alliance and the American Cancer Society, will inform women of the benefits and limitations of mammography and empower them to take charge of their breast health between mammograms.
A mammogram:
- Is the most accurate test for breast cancer
- Can detect cancers before tumors can be felt by hand
- Can reduce death rates for women over 40 with annual screenings
However, a mammogram may also:
- Identify abnormalities that are not breast cancer
- Not identify abnormalities that are cancerous
- Require additional/other testing to complete diagnosis
The campaign provides information that will enable women to begin/continue a good breast health regimen that, when combined with clinical breast exams and annual mammograms beginning at 40, can improve the chance of finding breast cancer early.
