New York, 5 January 2004 – Elsevier and the American College of Radiology announce publication of the premiere issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR), a new publication focusing on the everyday issues most important to practicing radiologists.

"Our new 'Blue Journal' will fill a unique niche by covering the principal issues of interest to the ACR membership," said Bruce J. Hillman, M.D., Editor in Chief of JACR. "Basic science, translational, and clinical biomedical research are already covered extremely well by traditional radiology journals. With JACR, our goal is to create a unique and valuable journal by publishing material that is of practical importance to practitioners in an engaging format."

JACR will immediately become one of the most widely circulated radiology publications, as the premiere January issue of JACR will be sent as a membership benefit to the 30,000 radiologists and other professionals who are ACR members. The College's existing ACR E-Bulletin will continue to appear on the ACR Web site, www.acr.org

Members and paid subscribers can access the full content of each issue of JACR online at www.jacr.org . The journal will also be available through Elsevier's institutional subscription service, ScienceDirect ( www.sciencedirect.com ).

Each monthly issue of JACR will feature authoritative, peer-reviewed papers in the key areas affecting radiologic practice. Renowned experts will serve as associate editors in their respective fields, including Jonathan Levy, M.D., clinical practice; John J. Cronan, M.D., practice management; Howard P. Forman, M.D., M.B.A., health services and policy; Jannette Collins, M.D., M.Ed., education; and Beth Erickson, M.D., radiation oncology. In addition, JACR will include regular columns and opinion features, such as "Washington Watch," "Heard on Campus," "The Bottom Line," and more.

Highlights of the January issue include articles on practice organization and governance, the malpractice crisis, and combating self-referral. With the first issue, members will also receive an important ACR supplement on the emerging field of molecular imaging.

"We at Elsevier are pleased and proud to be part of the planning and launch of this major new radiology publication," said Mary Heffner, Publisher of JACR for Elsevier. "We think radiologists will shortly come to view the 'Blue Journal' as an indispensable resource for information on the issues with the greatest impact on their everyday practice."
