Criteria and Procedures for the Award of Honorary Fellowship
- Honorary Fellows are elected by the Board of Chancellors in recognition of preeminent contributions to the science or practice of radiology by individuals who by virtue of residence, education, profession, or lack of board certification are ineligible for admission as Members of the College in any category other than international.
- Nominations are submitted in writing by a fellow of the College, giving in detail, the nominee’s qualifications for the award, and must be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae or resume (preferably in English). In addition, there must be letters of support for each nominee from at least two College fellows. The primary nominator is responsible for initiating the submission of letters of support.
- An individual fellow of the College can act only twice each year as a primary nominator or sponsor, i.e., as primary nominator for one individual and sponsor for another, or in either capacity for no more than two individuals each year.
- Members on the Committee on Awards and Honors, members on the Board of Chancellors, the Executive Director and staff of the College are ineligible and not allowed to act as primary nominators or sponsors nor submit letters of nomination or support.
- Solicitations for nominations are to appear in the November, December, February and/or April issues of the College Bulletin and on the ACR Web Site.
- Letters of nomination and sponsorship are to be sent to the Chairman of the Committee on Awards and Honors in care of the College Headquarters before July 1; the submitted material then being duplicated and sent to the members of the Committee on Awards and Honors.
- The Committee on Awards and Honors makes its recommendations to the Board of Chancellors. The method of voting and establishing the order of preference is to be determined by the Committee on Awards and Honors.
- The determination of the award of Honorary Fellow from this list is by vote of the Board of Chancellors at its fall meeting. No more than three such awards may be made each year. However, in any year there may be fewer than three, or even none.
- Candidates who are unsuccessful in the award process will not be automatically carried forward to the next year unless the nominator makes a specific request for the reactivation of the nomination. The reactivation letter must be received by January 15 for consideration the second year. Requests for reactivation of nominations will not be solicited by the College.
- A candidate can be nominated one year, reactivated the second year, and if not recommended for an award would then be ineligible for one year before a new nomination could be brought forward for consideration.
