New England Institutions Commemorate
the Radiology Centennial in Boston

In commemoration of the Radiology Centennial, poster displays, with illustrations, of the history of 13 departments of radiology in New England medical institutions were on display at the ACR annual meeting in Boston. Additionally, other posters depicted the history of radiation oncology in New England and the history of the New England Roentgen Ray Society.

The project, developed by a Joint Centennial Committee of the Massachusetts Radiological Society and the New England Roentgen Ray Society, was headed by Robert Cleveland of Children''s Hospital, Boston.

The 13 participating institutions were: Children''s Hospital; Beth Israel Hospital, Boston; Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston; Lahey Clinic, Burlington, MA; Boston University Medical Center, Boston; Brigham and Women''s Hospital, Boston; Deaconness Hospital, Boston; St. Vincent Hospital; Worchester; Mt. Auburn Hospital, Cambridge; Bay State Health Systems, Springfield; New England Medical Center/Tufts University Medical Center, Boston; Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH; and University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Worchester.

In addition, the joint committee sponsored the publication of a book entitled, Radiology in New England: The First 100 Years - 1896 to 1996, authored by Sande Bishop. For a copy of the book, contact John Patti, treasurer, Massachusetts Radiological Society, 1440 Main St., Waltham, MA 02154-1649.
