Centennial Time Capsule to be Sealed at RSNA Meeting Nov. 29 in Chicago

In recognition of radiology''s 100th anniversary this year, 3M Medical Imaging Systems and Radiology Centennial, Inc. (RCI) will officially seal a time capsule commemorating the first 100 years of medical imaging technology at the 1995 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) conference in Chicago.

The closing ceremony of the time capsule will be held in the Arie Crown Theater at 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29.

3M and RCI reviewed hundreds of items for placement in the capsule that included submissions from the radiology community across North America. Items that will be sealed in the time capsule include early artifacts such as glass x-ray plates and old x-ray tubes, as well as print and electronic materials describing the history and 1995 status of medical radiology.

"The time capsule will be a wonderful way for radiologists 100 years from now to learn of our advances, procedures, challenges, ethics and opinions of the radiology industry in 1995," said Helen C. Redman of Dallas, TX, chairwoman of the RCI Time Capsule Committee and president of the RCI. The time capsule is scheduled to be reopened in the year 2095.

An RCI-designated panel reviewed ideas and submissions and then selected the articles included in the radiology time capsule. Duplicates of the items will be placed in the archives of the American College of Radiology in Reston, VA, and also at the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, MD.
