Record Group 6 Detail - ACR Associated Organizations


This record group contains files from several radiology-related associations and organizations having a direct relationship with ACR. The organizations are managed by ACR or are regional institutions whose archives have been acquired by the College.

    Subgroup 6.1: American Radium Society
    The American Radium Society was founded in 1916. The files became part of the College's archives after the management of the Society was taken over by the College (ca. 1970s).

      Subdivision 6.1.1: General Administration
      This subdivision contains files that document the activities and interests of ARS. The subdivision includes a series of correspondence with many other associations and with ARS officers and committees (1950 to 1969). Also included are subject files and reports related to the activities of its officers and committees (1950 to 1970), constitutions and by-laws, and member directories, which were included as a single publications (1930, 1936-37, 1939, 1947, 1950, 1954-74), a publication (1966) commemorating the 50th anniversary, and two clippings (1963 and 1991) related to therapy advancements and the ARS diamond anniversary.

      Subdivision 6.1.2: Membership Files
      Files associated with the application process for membership in ARS are included in this subdivision. The subdivision includes correspondence (1952 to 1972), subject files (1956 to 1973), and applications (1964 to 1966)

      Subdivision 6.1.3: Meeting Files
      This subdivision mainly includes files from the ARS annual meeting, but also some files from the Executive Committee Meeting and a few other miscellaneous meetings. Series included in the subdivision are: correspondence (1954 to 1991), transcripts (1961 to 1969), minutes/agenda (1916-1936, 1961-1969), executive committee meeting files (1969 to 1975), reports (1964 to 1969), programs/menus/invitations (1916 to 1982 and 1991), lists (1958-1962 and 1967-1968), clippings (1950s and 1960s), media programs (1961 to 1963), scrapbook (1917 to 1950s), and photographs (1958 to 1968).

    Subgroup 6.2: American Society of Therapeutic Radiologists and Oncologists (ASTRO)
    The American Society of Therapeutic Radiologists and Oncologists was organized and founded by Dr. Juan del Regato in 1956. Most of the files were donated to the College by Dr. Juan del Regato.

      Subdivision 6.2.1: General Administration
      The files in this subdivision record many of the general activities of ASTRO. Series included in the General Administration subdivision include president's files from Dr. del Regato's term as president (1970, 1974-75), correspondence regarding a variety of subjects (1949 to 1976; bulk from the 1960s), and drafts of the constitution and by-laws (1966-68). Also included are committee files, financial reports, publications, and member directories. Dates range from 1959 to 1997, with the bulk from the 1960s and 1970s.

      Subdivision 6.2.2: Meeting Files
      This subdivision contains files from a variety of meetings held by ASTRO. Most of the files, however, come from the annual meeting. The series are Board of Directors meetings (1966, 1968, 1974, 1976), miscellaneous meeting, including both annual meetings and committee meetings, (1956, 1960s, 1980s), correspondence, which was the title of folders containing both correspondence and other meeting files (the files were not separated), (1958 to 1980, 1990), and programs (1970 to 1982, 1986, 1990).

      Subdivision 6.2.3: Membership Files
      This subdivision contains membership applications from the 1950s and 1960s.

    Subgroup 6.3: Pacific Roentgen Society/California Radiological Society
    Dr. L. Henry Garland donated the files from the Pacific Roentgen Society and the California Radiological Society to the College. The Pacific Roentgen Society was organized in 1932 changing its name to California Radiological Society in 1962. Many of the material were previously combined within files; therefore, the subgroup was not divided into subdivisions.

    The subgroup contains the following series: correspondence, subject files, bulletins, member files, minutes, reports, articles, constitution and by-laws, and brochures. The files range in date from 1932 to approximately 1966.

    Subgroup 6.4: New York Roentgen Ray Society
    The New York Roentgen Ray Society subgroup contains the files from the society's past president, Dr. Henry Taylor. Series included in this subgroup are correspondence, subject files, meeting files, and reports. The files date from 1938 and the 1940s.
