This record group contains material generated by, and related to, the activities of the College. Much of the material came from the files of the former executive director, Otha Linton.

Subgroup 1.1: Board of Chancellors
This subgroup contains correspondence from 1934 to 1980, a small amount of subject files related to the Inter-American Congress of Radiology from 1964 to 1970, reports from various sections of the College, and memoranda from the board regarding the 1980 International Congress of Radiology.
Also included in this subgroup are correspondence, subject files, agendas, minutes, binders, proceedings, membership and fellowship files, reports, resolutions, memoranda, organization charts, notes and photographs associated with the meeting of the Board of Chancellors. These files span from 1930 through the 1980s.
Finally, the subgroup includes files from several committees within the Board of Chancellors. The Ad Hoc Committee on Continuing Medical Education files include an agenda and report to the Executive Committee from 1978; the Executive Committee files date from 1936 through 1957 and from 1978 through 1980. The Judiciary Committee (originally identified as the Board of Censors) files date from the 1950s and include, among other items, information about the McCullough v. Perryman court decision and the Cooperative Laboratories Survey. The Nominating Committee files include reports and correspondence from 1940 to 1955 and 1974, 1975, 1978, and 1979.
Subgroup 1.2: Officers and Executives
Subdivision 1.2.1: Wallace D. Buchanan, M.D.
This subdivision documents the activities of Dr. Buchanan in his capacities as Chairman of the Board of Chancellors and President of the College. Elected Chairman in 1964 and President the following year, Dr. Buchanan also served as Chairman of the Commission on Radiologic Units Standards and Protection.
His files include correspondence (1950s, 1964-1965, 1983), subject files, speeches, manuscripts, clippings, biographical files, notecards, audio recordings and photographs (1960s).
Subdivision 1.2.2: Mac. F. Cahal
This subdivision documents Mr. Cahal's activities as Executive Secretary of the College from approximately 1940 to 1947. These files record the wide variety of activities and interests of the College during the 1940s, including radiologist/hospital relations, insurance coverage for radiology, and standardization of radiology practices. Mr. Cahal's files include correspondence, subject files, reports, articles, and scripts.
Subdivision 1.2.3: William C. Stronach, L.L.B.
This subdivision documents Mr. Stronach's activities as Executive Secretary (ca. 1951 to 1966) and Executive Director (ca. 1966 to 1970s) of the College. These files record many of the activities and interests of the College in the 1950s and 1960s, including separate billing, and insurance. Mr. Stronach's files include correspondence, subject files, reports, articles, agreements, organizational structure and photographs.
Subgroup1.3: General Administration
Subdivision 1.3.1: Office Files
The majority of the files are alphabetized correspondence (1960). This correspondence is generated mainly from the office of the executive director, at that time Mr. Stronach and from the Public Relations department. Also included is a series of correspondence between Dr. Albert Soiland and Dr. Benjamin Orndoff from 1928 to 1930, and correspondence regarding the treasurer's records from 1931 to 1933.
This subdivision also contains subject files regarding the American Board of Nuclear Medicine from 1971 (donated by Thomas F. Meaney, 1971) and the legal assessment fund, from 1978. Also included in the Office Files are special bulletins directed to councilors, chancellors, and members (1938 to 1953, 1977 to 1979), miscellaneous reports (1944, 1996), speeches (1970s), memoranda (1946), official actions (n.d.), and miscellaneous honors and awards.
Subdivision1.3.2: Annual Meeting and Convocation Files
This subdivision includes files from the College's annual meeting. Corresondence (much of it donated by Dr. Juan del Regato) (1932 to 1941, 1951, 1958, 1967, 1976 to 1981), proceedings (1934 to 1936, 1943, 1944, 1950 to 1952, 1969, 1984), and Transactions, a publication which includes agenda, minutes, reports, (1935-1936, 1939-1940, 1942 to 1944, 1946, 1949, 1950, 1951), agenda (1930s to 1960s) are also included in this subdivision.
The Annual Meeting and Convocation Files include minutes, such as a copy of the minutes from the first "organizational meeting" in 1923 (1923, 1932,1933, 1951, and 1953), speeches (1930s to 1950s), convocation scripts (1970s to 1980s), programs (1930s, 1950s to 1990s), reports (1930s and 1980s), and membership files, resolutions, announcements/notices, notes, miscellaneous files, and photographs (1930s and 1950s).
Subgroup 1.4: Member Communications
Subdivision 1.4.1: Member Services
A miscellany of educational programs, workshops, conferences, and seminars sponsored and presented by ACR (1960s to 1990s) are in this subdivision. Included in this series is a collection of presentations from the Workshop for Radiology Residents in the Socio-economic Aspects of Radiology, a workshop series from the 1960s.
Also included is a large collection of brochures and booklets promoting services provided by the ACR for its members (ca. 1960s to 1990s).
Subdivision 1.4.2: Events and Anniversaries
Events and Anniveraries include files, memorabilia and photographs from significant moments in the history of the College. The subdivision includes a program from the 50th Anniversary of Roentgen's discovery of X-rays (1945), an issue of Practical Radiology commemorating the 50th Anniversary of ACR (1973), programs, plans, memorabilia and photographs from the Reston headquarters groundbreaking and dedication (1984 and 1986), and a commemorative travel cup and brochure from the College's 75th Anniversary (1999).
Subdivision 1.4.3: Membership Files
This subdivision includes membership directories (1981, 1993, 1995, 1977), ledgers, identifying membership status (1950 to 1972), lists (1979 to 1980), a membership survey report (1981), and a membership credentials form (n.d.).

Subdivision 1.4.5: Audio Visual Material
This subdivision contains the College's collection of videos, films, audio cassettes and records. Included in the audiovisual material is the oral history video series, Living Legends of Radiology. Also included are a miscellany of films, videos and recordings documenting events of the College and radiology history.
The subdivision contains the only known audio and video recording of Mme. Curie, taken when she received the College's highest honor, the gold medal. This film is not to be reproduced in any way (see the American College of Radiology Foundation, Inc. record group).
Subgroup 1.5: Council Files
The ACR Council is made up of 258 representatives elected by the state chapters. These Councilors meet annually to discuss and vote for recommendations on policy changes, awarding of fellowships, and presentation of the gold medal. The Council is made up of 258 members.
Subdivision 1.5.1: General Administration
Files produced by and for the entire Council are in this subdivision. Included are correspondence, meeting files (including agendas, minutes, and invitations) and reports (1950s to 1980). Also included is a series of files from the State Radiological Societies, policies and procedures (1973, 1974), and slides (1984).
Subdivision 1.5.2: Committee Files
This subdivision contains files from the four main committees present in the Council the Executive Committee, the Committee on Chapters, the Rules and Regulations Committee, the Steering Committee, and the Committee to Study the Structure of the Council. These files include mainly reports and meeting files from the 1960s and 1970s.
Subgroup 1.6: Legal Files
Subdivision 1.6.1: Litigation
Currently the only subdivision of the Legal Files subgroup, Litigation contains files from several court cases that have either directly involved the College or have influenced the College in some way. The major court cases include Holy Cross Hospital vs Health Services Cost Review Commission, Wilk, et al. V. American Medical Association, et al., New Jersey Chiropractic Society, et al v. ACR, et al., Chiropractic Cooperative Association of Michigan v. American Medical Association, et al. and Slavek v. ACR (1970s to 1980s). The subdivision also includes a series of general lawsuit files.
Subgroup 1.7: External Communication
This subgroup contains materials produced by the College for distribution to the public. Included are brochures and booklets regarding the field of radiology, preventative medicine and radon (ca. 1970s to 1990s), press releases regarding mammography (1960s to 1970s), and an advertisement from the Wall Street Journal (1999).
