Medicare Reimbursement - Sustainable Growth Rate
ACR’s Government Relations Department deals with Medicare-related legislation affecting the practice of radiology. Specifically, with regard to reimbursement, ACR is deeply involved with what has become an annual event on Capitol Hill --- delaying impending cuts to the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) portion of the Medicare Fee Schedule formula.
In 2006, ACR, along with other medical specialties and the American Medical Association, worked with lawmakers to enact legislation on the last day of the 109th session of Congress to avoid the implementation of the 5.1 percent payment cut for 2007 and freeze payments at the 2006 level. Included in the package is a 1.5 percent bonus payment for physicians who voluntarily report CMS approved quality measures starting in July of 2007.
