ACR Submits Comments on Practice Expense Methodology to CMS

The ACR submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on March 24, 2006 regarding practice expense methodology under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MFS) for the upcoming Notice of Proposed Rule for 2007.

These issues were discussed at Medicare's February 15 Practice Expense Town Hall meeting concerning resource-based practice expense relative values. CMS provided a 40-day comment period.

The ACR letter included comments on the practice expense methodology, use of Practice Expense Advisory Committee data for radiology and radiation oncology procedures, and use of the ACR's radiology supplemental survey data for 2007.

There are many different factors that affect the formula to determine the resource-based practice expense values. The ACR continues to work with CMS on this issue and many others. The College will keep members posted on any developments.
