NCCI and MUE Edits Rescinded
NCCI Edits Version 16.1 – Revision of 36590/36589
When National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edit version 16.1 is implemented on April 1, 2010, it will include a revision to edit 36590/36589 (Removal of tunneled central venous access device, with subcutaneous port or pump, central or peripheral insertion/Removal of tunneled central venous catheter, without subcutaneous port or pump) allowing for use of a modifier. Since April 1, 2005, this edit has not allowed the use of NCCI-associated modifiers, but the ACR was able to provide CMS with documentation of cases for which it was necessary to report both CPT codes 36590 and 36589 on the same day.

MUE Value for 75726 Increased
On January 1, 2010, the Medically Unlikely Edit (MUE) value for CPT code 75726 (angiography, visceral, selective or supraselective (with or without flush aortogram), radiological supervision and interpretation) will be increased from two to three units of service. An MUE value is the maximum units of service that a provider would report under most circumstances for a single beneficiary on a single date of service.
