Mammography, Most Guidance CPT® Codes - Relocated to 77000 Section - CPT® Code Book
Look for pertinent changes in the CPT® 2007 code book that will require revision to radiology computer systems and charge sheets. Significant among the changes is the relocation of a number of codes within the 2007 CPT codebook as part of an AMA organizational restructuring (CPT 5 Data Model Project*) to facilitate computer processing and interoperability with various computer systems. Codes which were previously listed under the “Other” section have been relocated to more descriptive sections within the CPT book. This restructuring includes a host of well-established radiology codes such as:
• mammography codes (76082, 76083, 76086, 76088, 76090, 76091, 76092, 76093, 76094, 76095, 76096)
• most guidance codes (75998, 76003, 76005, 76355, 76360, 76362, 76370,76393, 76394)
• bone studies (76020, 76040, 76061, 76062, 76065, 76066, 76070, 76071, 76075, 76076, 76077 76078, 76400)
• vertebroplasty codes (76012, 76013)
Because of the large number of radiology codes to be relocated, a majority of these codes will be placed at the beginning of the 77000 series codes. A crosswalk to the revised code structure is provided in the September/October 2006 issue of the ACR Radiology Coding Source™ (see 2007 CPT Code Update).
Be sure to share a copy of the 2007 CPT Code Update article [LINK] with your billing office. There is no grace period given to update your computer systems. You must be ready to submit the new codes as of January 1, 2007.
The ACR Radiology Coding Source is accessible on the ACR Web site (see Reimbursement & Coding) for a detailed listing of 2007 CPT code changes.
